i used to think bleaching was stupid too until after i had a baby and my complexion changed to a dark dusty uneven complexion and people used to walk past me cause they did not recognize me. i went to prison and every one was doing it all people who was already brown was bleaching. i still thought it was stupid then and then one day i had a visit and i put on my usual pink lipstick and looked in the mirror and it looked so stupid it did not suit me like it usually did. so i decided to join every one else and bleach too and then i got browner than i usually was but i liked it. i found that people was more friendly when i was browner than darker you might say I'm chatting shit but i experienced this. i don't bleach anymore i am still brown as i was before i got pregnant . but no longer look down on people that do bleach if its gonna make you look better then thats fine but one thing i don't like when they don't know when to stop and there skin ends up looking raw. but that don't mean that being brown is better because thats not true they r some very pretty dark skinned people around and just because you r brown does not mean that you look better than someone who is darker. they r a lot of ugly brown people too.

attitude. I'm not saying bleaching is right i just saying i don't look down on people that do bleach there skin i know its true what you said about the low self esteem but that would means most black women have low self esteem then because of the false hair, the make up, the false breast, false eyelash, false nails, most women these day have something false on anyway. and its not the pink lipstick that actually made me do it as i said my skin was a dark uneven complexion unnaturally colour as it was not my original complexion anyway. and no one was looking down on me for the way i live my life that is one thing cause i might have went to prison but I'm not a careless gyal.

As for the enhancements u talk about,the hair,the nails etc...i see where ur going with that EXCEPT that isn't altering who they are, that is mearly exaggerating who they are and putting nails and weave on themselves is not eating away at their skin!
Plus lets face it,if black women think its good to look like a pint ah guiness when they put on the blonde weave ah fi dem bizness,shame on their people dem for not tellin them the truth ca it dont look good!

I'm a pretty dark skin girl and I'm PROUD Don't wish and never wanted be no no brownin' Don't use and NEVER would use no bleaching products My skin is nice and smooth with no spots or blemishes Yes I see some that 'some times' and I mean some times that my brown friends would always get call to by guys on road, but I just laugh to myself and wonder if they getting called to because the man dem think they look good are because the have a light skin tone. I know where I'm coming from and I love my blackness I have no wish to be a skin tone that's close to white. By the way, people that bleach and if they stop bleaching their skin normally goes darker than what it was to begin with...  |

Me , I got pretty brown skin an i wouldnt give it up for da world but at de same time if i was any darker i dont think i would go to the extremeties of bleaching , not when i c what it done to some people skin. Nuf man love brownin and on the other hand i'm sure theres man out there that wouldnt take a 2nd look at me cos of my skin so it's all about a matter of preference. Beauty comes from within.  |

I definately think that bleaching stems from low self esteem. I am darkskinned and if i choose to wear 24 inch weave that is not the same issue coz i can take it out in the morning and no one would ever be any the wiser. The w L issue stems from the days of slavery wit house slaves (slaves of lighter complexion that got to live in the masters house and generally had more privaledges). Its sad to see that many women are still under this mental slavery - but as for me, im black like midnight and proud as a pidgeon, i wouldnt bleach for love or money.
